The life and times of the human brain transcriptome

A dynamic view of transcription in the human brain has been revealed in two papers published in Nature. Both studies track how tens of thousands of genes switch on and off across the lifespan, and found that transcription is highest prenatally and slows after birth — a pattern presumably reflecting the intricate work of building a brain.
